Sorella di Clausura

SYNOPSIS

The film follows Stela, a 36-year-old woman, with higher education, but incapable of holding on to a job. Since she was 12 years old, she has been in love with a Serbian musician from former Yugoslavia, an absolute Balkan superstar, seen as “The God of poor people and Roma people” (as his music is inspired from Roma music).  One of the musicians supposed mistresses, Vera, a starlet-musician, promises Stela that she will help her meet her idol and, even more, will take her away from her poverty-stricken rural life and brings her to Bucharest, where she has a company that sells sexual products and lubricants. The story is happening at the end of the euphoria before the Financial Crisis, when Romania was just admitted into the European Union and it was raining money and credits – but also during the recession that followed. Vera’s company goes bankrupt, and Stela becomes a servant in Vera’s family house in a small border town. Stela’s meeting with the Balkan star happens in this context and it is a disappointment for our main character, as she discovers that her idol only cares about money and fame and that, in her own words, “he’s just like Jackie Onassis, who only had eyes for powerful and rich men”.
